How Teesside will look following redevelopment. Photo Credit: Teesworks GE Renewable Energy (Paris, France) announced on March 10 that it plans to open a new blade manufacturing facility in Teesside, a conurbation, or extended urban area, in northeastern England that has recently been designated as one of the U.K.’s newest freeports. LM Wind Power (Kolding, Denmark) plans to set up and operate this plant which will be dedicated to the production of its 107-meter-long offshore wind turbine blades, a key component of GE’s Haliade-X, said to be the most powerful offshore wind turbine in operation today. Advertisement GE Renewable Energy has announced that it plans to open a new blade manufacturing facility in Teesside in the North East of England. LM Wind Power plans to set up and operate this plant which will be dedicated to the production of its 107 m long offshore wind turbine blades, a key component of GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade-X, one of the most powerful offshore wind turbines currently in operation. Terms of the construction and financing of the new plant are in advanced stages of negotiation between the interested parties. GE Renewable Energy estimates that this new plant, set to open and start production in 2023, could create up to 750 direct renewable energy jobs and up to 1500 indirect jobs in the area to support the entire value chain needed to operate this facility. This announcement and commitment supports the UK government’s plan to develop jobs, infrastructure, and supply chains to reach its goal to commission 40 GW of offshore wind power by 2030, a ....
£95M offshore wind investment for Humber and Teesside ports Two new ports will be constructed on the Humber and Teesside to build the next generation of offshore wind projects as part of a £95M investment to boost the industry and create 6,000 new jobs in the North. Able Marine Energy Park, on the south bank of the River Humber, will receive up to £75M in government investment, and Teesworks Offshore Manufacturing Centre, on the River Tees, will benefit from up to £20M. Construction will begin later this year to upgrade the two ports with new infrastructure. Together the ports will have the capacity to house up to seven manufacturers to support the development of the next generation offshore wind projects. ....
ORE Catapult has welcomed the news of GE Renewable Energy’s investment in a new blade factory in Teesside, north-east England. The factory, which will make blades for Haliade-X units, will directly create around 750 jobs at the Teesworks site on the River Tees as well as 1500 indirect roles. It will open and start production in 2023, supplying blades to SSE Renewables and Equinor’s Dogger Bank offshore wind farm, as reported exclusively in last week’s subscriber-only edition of reNEWS. ORE Catapult chief executive Andrew Jamieson said: “We’re justifiably proud of the strong partnership that we have built with both GE Renewable Energy and LM Wind Power over recent years, directly supporting the rapid delivery of their ground-breaking Haliade-X turbine and bringing UK innovation, research and development to the forefront of global offshore wind technology development. ....
