Salisbury area board discusses key issues in city and Covid-19


MENTAL health struggles, climate change and a lack of opportunities for young people are just some of the current key issues identified in Salisbury.
Despite this, one councillor said that the effort to tackle climate change had come an awful long way since the climate emergency was first announced.
Along with five other areas, the city-wide issues are now to be investigated by the Salisbury area board, working with groups across the city.

Heard during an area board meeting in January, community engagement manager Marc Read presented councillors with the Salisbury Community Area Status report, which highlighted the current areas that needed development in the city. ....

New play equipment unveiled at Churchill Gardens


The new play boat has been installed at Churchill Gardens.
The original play unit, pictured below, had been in place for several years.

With the river set behind the play park and the sea cadets building close by, it worked well with its natural surroundings.
Salisbury City Council says for this reason it was important to choose a similar piece of equipment to replace the original boat.
The chairman of the city council’s service committee, Councillor Sven Hocking, said: “I am delighted the new adventure boat is in place for residents to enjoy. ....

I don t feel it goes far enough
Cllr Stephen Berry (Harnham, Conservative), said he felt the scheme did not go far enough.
He also said he did not feel the motion covered the process needed to go through before a fresh proposal is considered.
It was not people friendly
Cllr Kevin Daley (St Francis and Stratford, Conservative), said he spoke to hotels, charity shops and other businesses around the city centre who suffered as a result of the scheme.
One problem he encountered was customers at the Red Lion Hotel, who were unable to get to the hotel without a permit, which created problems for the owners of the hotel. ....
