Srinagar, Feb 17: The High Court has expressed concern for not taking effective progress and steps by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on maintaining the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
The Division Bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul upon perusal of the pleadings on record said that no effective progress is, in fact, made with regard to the Court direction over the maintenance of Udhampur to Banihal and Banihal to Ramban sections of National Highway.
Court directed the senior Additional Advocate General, B A Dar to update the status of the compliance of the directions passed by this Court on February last year by the next date of hearing. ....

SRINAGAR: Most parts of Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Wednesday, resulting in significant improvement in the minimum temperature across the valley and providing huge relief to residents, officials said.
The snowfall began during the night and continued at many places when last reports came in, the officials said.
The snowfall affected the flight operations at Srinagar airport in the morning, causing some flight delays.
The flight operations were hampered due to the accumulation of snow on the runway and poor visibility due to the bad weather. The MET Office said the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, received about six inches of fresh snowfall, while Kupwara, also in the north, recorded about three inches. ....

Soldier martyred, 3 injured in IED blast in Kulgam

Jammu, Jan 27: A soldier was martyred and three others injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this morning while a man shot at by militants succumbed to injuries today.
Four soldiers were injured, one of them seriously, in Shamsipora area along the Srinagar-Jammu National highway in Kulgam district this morning. The injured were shifted to an Army hospital in Srinagar and the critically injured soldier succumbed.
An official said that the Army personnel who were on ROP duty were burning fire in the school compound daily to keep themselves warm. He said that this was violation of SOP as they were using same place for a longer period of time. ....

31-Member Parliamentary Delegation To Visit Valley Tomorrow

SRINAGAR: A Parliamentary delegation comprising 31 delegates will arrive in Kashmir tomorrow (Wednesday) to review the Tourism, Culture, road and transport sectors in the valley.
Special Secretary to the Government and Secretary Tourism, Sarmad Hafeez while speaking to news agency KNO confirmed the visit of the Parliamentary Delegation and said the guests will meet the officials from Tourism department and other stakeholders associated with the department.
