Health DG: Public sensitivity vital amid rising suicide cases


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian society needs to be more sensitive to suicidal behaviour among their family members and friends, while individuals need to be more respectful of those suffering from such issues, the Health director-general urged.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of suicide cases reported to the police rose to 631 in 2020 from 609 the previous year.
“Up until March this year, a total of 336 suicide cases have already been reported to the police.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the mental health of individuals all over the world, including Malaysia.
“Some individuals have a higher risk of suffering from mental health issues including depression, especially when under tremendous stress or isolated from a support network of friends and family. ....

Covid-19: New record high of 126 deaths nationwide, 29 in Selangor


PETALING JAYA: Covid-19 deaths have reached a new high, with 126 fatalities recorded on Wednesday (June 2), says the Health director-general.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that of the 126 deaths recorded, 29 were from Selangor alone.
Kuala Lumpur recorded the second highest death rate, with 18 cases. Eleven deaths were recorded in Johor while Kedah saw 10 fatalities.
According to the breakdown of fatalities listed by the ministry, most had comorbidities.
However, of the 126 listed deaths, 21 showed no prior illnesses.
The ministry said 22 new clusters were identified, of which 11 were workplace clusters.
These clusters were found in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Penang. ....

Volunteers needed: Health DG calling for medical professionals to help battle the Covid-19 pandemic


Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (
pic) said these volunteers are very much needed to alleviate the burden faced by governemt medical healthcare workers throughout the country.
He issued the call with an advertisement on Twitter on Thursday (May 27), saying medical officers, dental officers, assistant medical officers, nurses, environmental health officers, assistant environmental health officers, and lab technicians were needed.
This volunteer service is open to those aged 18 to 60, and is physically and mentally healthy and fit, he said.
He said women who are not pregnant can join while volunteers who are employed must also obtain approval from their employers first. ....
