Just ask Pencildive s singer/songwriter Gina De Nardo. She and drummer Zach Hirsch spoke with me recently about their first full length record Grown-Ups. It was recorded in a cabin in the Adirondacks during the pandemic. Hirsch calls it a record of catharsis. You can hear the funnel of emotion that Hirsch describes on the ten tracks due out May 28th on Albany s Paintbox Records. And if the name Zach Hirsch sounds familiar to NCPR listeners it s because he was an NCPR reporter from 2013-2018.

North Country lawmakers ask if Canadian truckers can get vaccinated in NY

Photo: Zach Hirsch May 15, 2021 State Senators Patty Ritchie and Assemblyman Mark Walczyk want Canadian truckers to be allowed to be vaccinated in New York State. The North Country lawmakers made a formal request to New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker after it was announced that the residency requirement for vaccine sites in the state will be lifted. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that tourists will be allowed to be vaccinated while visiting New York. In their letter, Ritchie and Walczyk asked if the expanded eligibility includes truckers and said that if it didn t, it soon should be allowed to be vaccinated in New York.

Plattsburgh police chief resigns

(undated) Photo: Zach Hirsch Apr 29, 2021 Plattsburgh police chief Levi Ritter s has resigned and the city is looking for a new leader of its police department. Plattsburgh mayor, Chris Rosenquest announced the chief’s resignation in a written statement on Thursday. Ritter has been on paid administrative leave since late December. During his absence, the Rosenquest said his administration decided it wanted to make changes to the leadership of the police department. The mayor s statement said that Ritter decided to resign after discussions between the two did not resolve concerns. What those concerns were was not explained in the statement.

Here in the North Country, State Assemblyman Billy Jones recently took a tour of Plattsburgh city government to meet employees, including police officers. He spoke with Ryan Finnerty outside the Plattsburgh police station about what he’s heard from constituents and law enforcement officers in his district. Their conversation has been lightly edited for clarity. Jones: We can always improve.
