Smartsville man sentenced to prison for possession of child pornography

Marcus John Krause, 71, was sentenced in February by Nevada County Superior Court Judge Robert Tice-Raskin shortly after the judge heard from an advisory board recommending that Krause be given a prison sentence rather than just probation.
Records show Krause was booked Monday into the Nevada County Jail.
Krause’s defense attorney had argued for a sentence of five years’ probation and home detention. His counsel stressed mitigating elements in the case, such as Krause’s age and his lack of a significant criminal record.
Prosecutors pushed for a more severe judgment for the defendant, pointing to numerous aggravating factors. ....

Smartsville woman facing Placer County drug sale charges

A Smartsville woman is facing multiple drug sale charges in Placer County after being found in a vehicle with a wide variety of controlled substances, including suspected methamphetamine, heroin, Ecstasy, Xanax, oxycodone and marijuana, authorities said.
Odessa Spears, 26, has been charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for sale, and two counts of transportation for sale. Her bond has been set at $110,000. She remained jailed Tuesday, court records state.
Spears and co-defendant Bogdan Galay who faces the same charges and remained jailed Tuesday under $235,000 in bond were arrested around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 3 after a Placer County sheriff’s deputy pulled over their vehicle in Roseville, authorities said. ....

It was family night out at The Nevada City Film Festival Tuesday, Sept. 1, when a series of family and children’s film shorts were shown on an inflatable screen for drive-in movie goers in the parking lot of the Nevada County Fairgrounds.
