New 1-day peak: 20 Covid deaths in Gzb | Noida News


Noida/Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad on Saturday reported 20 deaths, the highest single-day toll so far.
Will this, the toll has now reached 226, of which 102 were reported in April alone. For the past 14 days, the district has been reporting deaths in double digits. The district on Saturday reported 1,204 new cases and with this total Covid cases has breached the 40,000 mark. The district’s tally is now 40,955.
As many as 919 people were discharged from hospitals and home isolations on Saturday, taking the total discharged to 33,819. Presently, there are 6,908 active cases.
While Ghaziabad’s recovery rate in April was 82.7%, it was 97.7% and 99.4% in March and February, respectively. April saw a death rate of 0.5% while it was 0.4% both in March and February. Ghaziabad district magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey, who had tested Covid positive on April 25 and was in home isolation since then, was on Saturday admitted to Yashoda hospital in Kaushambi after his condition worsen ....

Rise in the number of postal ballots has been another reason for increasing the counting halls from 1,002 to 2,364.
Starting 8 a.m. on Sunday, the counting of votes for the 822 Assembly seats spread across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry will take place at 2,364 counting halls following the COVID-19 protocols, the Election Commission (EC) said on Saturday. ....

Amid a rapid surge in COVID-19 cases in Haryana, the Congress party accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) government of failing to manage the crisis, with health services infrastructure in the State on the verge of collapse.
At a party meeting on Saturday through videoconferencing, attended by Haryana Congress in-charge Vivek Bansal, State party chief Kumari Selja, Congress national general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and Rajya Sabha MP and special invitee member of Congress Working Committee Deepender Singh Hooda, among others, it was pointed out that black marketing of essential medicines was rampant in Haryana, and COVID-19 patients were being charged huge amounts in private hospitals. ....

Embassy unofficially begins denying green health codes even if travellers fulfil criteria.
China’s Embassy in India has since Friday put in place curbs that have made it harder for its nationals to return to China, amid the surge in COVID-19 cases.
The Embassy told Chinese travellers it will no longer issue “health codes” they need to return if they transit either through Nepal or Sri Lanka. Indian citizens and foreigners based in India have been barred from travelling to China since November last year. ....
