The sculpture of Spencer, who is famous in part for leading the fight to desegregate Coney Island s swimming pools and being the first Black woman elected to Cincinnati City Council, is the city s first named statue of a woman. A large crowd gathered at the park s Women s Garden in scorching heat for the statue s dedication, which began just before 5 p.m. The unveiling was preceded by singing and speeches from public officials, as well as family. ....

The sculpture, commissioned by the Women s City Club, will be unveiled at Smale Park on Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m. Spencer, who died in 2019, is most remembered for leading the charge to desegregate Coney Island and Cincinnati Public Schools. She had leadership roles on Cincinnati City Council, the NAACP, the University of Cincinnati and Women s City Club. She was also a co-founder of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. ....

THREE drug dealers have been jailed after exploiting a woman before taking over her home to sell heroin and crack cocaine. Officers from Essex Police s Operation Raptor North team carried out a warrant at a bedsit near Marine Parade East, Clacton, on June 4 last year. The crew, which specialises in dismantling drugs gangs, was investigating the Yardies drug line and seized heroin and crack cocaine with a street value of about £1,300. It was also established drug dealers had exploited a woman living at the flat before taking it over to sell drugs against her will. Zak Gee, Jason Hood and Ben McGarity were among the people found by police at the property and were arrested before all being charged with possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent supply. ....
