Rochelle Frounfelker, PhD

Rochelle Frounfelker, PhD Department of Psychiatry, McGill University Biography Dr. Rochelle Frounfelker is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University and works with Dr. Cecile Rousseau in her program of research on violent radicalization. She has a doctorate in social epidemiology from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Frounfelker’s work in violent radicalization includes examining risk and protective factors for sympathy for violent radicalization in transnational samples of youth and young adults, with a focus on understanding the dynamics between discrimination, mental health, and sympathy for violent action. She is also engaged in the evaluation of a clinical intervention model to address violent radicalization. Dr. Frounfelker is interested in framing and addressing violent radicalization as a public health issue, with special attention on primary prevention initiatives that target opinions and attitudes towards

UNM Geospatial & Population Studies symposium helps inspire new book

UNM Geospatial & Population Studies symposium helps inspire new book February 26, 2021 A recently published book highlights a symposium co-hosted by a research center at The University of New Mexico. Population Change and Public Policy is the proceedings of the Second Biennial Population and Public Policy Conference, held in February 2019 at Hotel Albuquerque. The conference was presented by the International Association of Applied Demographers and hosted by UNM’s Geospatial and Population Studies (GPS) along with the Hobby Center for Public Policy at the University of Houston. “We are very excited to see the conference proceedings in print,” said GPS Director Robert Rhatigan. “This conference was such a success that it is now sponsored by the Population Association of America.”

DEM Study on the Instability Behaviour of Granular Materials by Krishna Allulakshmi, J S Vinod et al

Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, Abstract © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG. This paper presents the discrete element method (DEM) simulations on the instability behaviour of granular materials during constant shear drained condition (CSD). CSD condition was implemented by decreasing mean effective stress on an assembly of particles under strain controlled loading. In this study, the instability condition was predicted at the particle scale level using particle second order work increment (Nicot et al. in Int J Solids Struct 49(10):1252–1258, 2012). The DEM contact parameters have been calibrated to capture the macroscopic responses and the instability behaviour consistently with the laboratory experiments. The effect of different range of initial states at the beginning of CSD condition such as diffe
