The Snowmass 50 is a highly contested mountain bike race that traverses the many trails at Snowmass Ski Area. Participants must complete two 25-mile loops that gain nearly 10,000 feet in elevation throughout the trail race. This year the event offered three divisions, a 50-mile solo race, 25-mile solo race, and a 50-mile team race where each member does a single lap in the relay. ....

Art Bowles grew up on guest ranches his parents owned in the Upper Fryingpan Valley and eventually owned and operate one of the resorts with his wife, Pauline. Art was also a snowcat operator who played an important role in the development of Snowmass Ski Area, and he was promoted to run Breckenridge ski area from 1978 to 1992. The glade once covered in photos, articles, signs and paraphernalia dedicated to the late gonzo journalist and Woody Creek writer contains only remnants of the tribute.
