Islamic Center hosts vaccination event


The Islamic Center of Daytona Beach was the site of a COVID-19 vaccination event on April 30.
It was sponsored by the Florida Department of Health of Volusia County, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Muslim Women’s Association of Daytona Beach.
The local health department has coordinated a number of local vaccination events since last year with the Volusia County Government.
There is now a shift from large-scale vaccination events to smaller and more community-based events. Pop-up sites like the one at the Islamic Center last week will continue.
Events like these are also part of a push to get the vaccine to underserved populations, including Black and Brown populations. ....

Where to get a COVID vaccine in Volusia/Flagler May 3-7


Flagler County started hosting clinics at local restaurants and businesses last week, which were a success, according to Bob Snyder, health officer at the Florida Department of Health - Flagler. 
We went to businesses like Finn’s and Tortuga’s in Flagler Beach; continued our partnerships with Parkview Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church; and operated a drive-thru after-hours site two nights off Airport Road, Snyder said.  Next week, we are adding new sites like the Palm Coast Community Center, AdventHealth Palm Coast and the Coquina Coast Brewing Company. This is all part of our plan to bring vaccinations to closer to where people live and work so we can reach community immunity as soon as possible.” ....

The Islamic Center of Daytona Beach has been the site of many community events in the past. It will host a vaccine event on Friday.

On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) eased mask guidelines for those vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine.
Those vaccinated are now no longer required to wear masks when doing the following:
Walking, running, hiking or biking outdoors alone or with members of their household.
Attending small outdoor gatherings with fully vaccinated family and friends.
Attending small outdoor gatherings with a mixture of fully vaccinated and unvaccinated people. ....

COVID-19 vaccines winding down at fairgrounds


After operating for over three months and providing more than 74,000 vaccines, COVID-19 activities at the Volusia County Fairgrounds are beginning to wind down. The last day for first dose vaccines at the site will be Friday, April 30, and second dose vaccines will be provided as scheduled through Friday, May 28.
“When vaccine efforts started in January, the partnership between the county and Department of Health to provide vaccines at the fairgrounds was a vital step in ensuring our residents had the ability to receive a COVID-19 vaccine as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Volusia County Public Protection Director Joe Pozzo. “I’m encouraged that vaccine supply is now meeting demand and that vaccines are available at many locations throughout the county. In discussing with both the state and local Florida Department of Health, we’ve determined it’s the appropriate time to transition efforts from a mass vaccine site to more community-f ....
