The Haven Community Larder in Stonehaven is bracing itself – it now has a competitor.
After being impressed by the work going on at The Haven’s community larder, youngsters at Mill O’ Forest Nursery have set up their own “Mini Haven”.
Attendees at the nursery in the town’s Woodview Place created their own larder which became an excellent learning resource for the children.
“In Stonehaven we are very lucky to have such a wonderful resource supporting our families in what has been a very difficult year. Many of our children visit The Haven with their parents and staff have been encouraging the children to exploring this through play,” said early years senior practitioner Jackie Leith. ....

A community leader says now is the time to “challenge and change” attitudes and stigma surrounding poverty to make the biggest difference as Scotland exits lockdown.
The Haven Community Larder in Stonehaven has experienced a “massive increase” in demand over recent months and is now assisting hundreds of people every week.
This has included people furloughed on lower wages who are increasingly struggling to feed their families, or others without any income who are unable to make ends meet. ....

Volunteers at a north-east community larder have helped to feed around 300 households every month since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
The Haven, based in Stonehaven’s Market Square, opened as a not-for-profit well being centre in January 2018.
But when the coronavirus pandemic hit, founder Julia Morton transformed the yoga studio into a community larder to help those most vulnerable in the area.
The service gives members of the public access to food and toiletries with no questions asked.
Its shelves are stocked with non-perishable items as well as fresh food nearing its sell-by-date donated by local shops to prevent it from going to waste. ....
