The Picken’s County Board of Elections met by a virtual online meeting on July 29, 2021 at 6:30 PM. The meeting was to discuss the new and old business on the agenda . Present at the meeting was Chairperson Joshua Tippens and four other Board members, Ellen Harrison, Barbara Balducci, Mike Carver and Rebecca Cantrel. Also present was Ms. Stacey Godfrey who was recently elected as the new Superintendent of Elections and Voter Registration. There were several other participants to the virtual meeting as well. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the approval of the minutes. First on the agenda was the adoption of the new by-laws which were voted in unanimously by all board members. ....

The Reviewed Public Participation Policy agreed that public participation is encouraged and would include 5 minutes per comment once per meeting which would be taken into consideration but would not be responded to at the meeting. Pickens County Gets New Finalist for Supervisor of Elections Board Uncategorized July 6, 2021 , by Pam Guenther Last Thursday The Picken’s County held a special meeting to discuss the candidates for the upcoming new Board of Elections. Last April Julianne Roberts who had served on the Elections Board as supervisor for Pickens County resigned. She had stated her reasons due to pertinent legislation regarding bills HB 682 and HB 683. She had previously also served as Supervisor of Elections for Cobb and Cherokee County as well. The decision was made after Representative Rick Jasperse urged the city commissioners to reexamine how the two political political parties appoint members to their board. ....

LaWanna “Lou” Shurtliff, who died in December after a three-week battle with pneumonia. “Her loss is a great loss for all of us. A loss of somebody who was a revered educator,” Senate Majority Whip Ann Millner, R-Ogden, said on the Senate floor. Shurtliff’s popularity in District 10 was fueled by love and support from students and parents. Weber County’s lone Democrat, Shurtliff, who was just reelected to represent House District 10, had been hospitalized for three weeks after becoming sick on Dec. 6. Her family told the media she’d tested negative for COVID-19 “and several other viruses.” ....
