The April 19, 1901 Statesboro News reported that J.F. Fields said, “I have bought of Mr. B.P. Maul the Statesboro Bottling Works and Ice Business.” ....

Georgia Preserving Co. opens pickling plant in Bulloch Bulloch History Roger Allen Note: The following is one of a series of columns looking at the origins and growth of the agriculture industry in Southeast Georgia and Bulloch County. The March 1, 1920 edition of the Bulloch Times and Statesboro News reported the planning for a pickling plant in Statesboro. It “is to be a branch of the Georgia Preserving Company, of Atlanta.” It declared, “Men (will) promote the growing of cucumbers, beans, etc., as may be best suited (because) the opportunity is a big one for the people of this county. It calls for little cash at the outset, and the risk is small.” ....

Turpentine plants spring up around Bulloch County Bulloch History Roger Allen Note: The following is one of a series of columns looking at the origins and growth of the agriculture industry in Southeast Georgia and Bulloch County. The Statesboro News issue of June 12, 1903 shared an article from the Journal of Trade announcing the opening of the “Pine Product Factory at Shearwood” established C.E. Broughton of Savannah. Broughton said he “has contracted for the sale of all of its output for the next three years on the basis of its present productive capacity.(and) expects to engage new capital and enlarge the plant in the near future.” ....
