Cornwall G7 protest site in Truro being reviewed

The police are reviewing a planned G7 summit protest site after concerns raised by local people.
Devon and Cornwall Police said it listens to our communities and is considering moving the site planned in Truro to another part of the city.
Local traders had expressed concerns the choice of Lemon Quay for a protest meant cancelling a five day farmers market.
The review comes as calls for another protest site to be moved in Plymouth.
MP Luke Pollard has written to the Chief Constable asking for it be moved to Central Park, saying Plymouth Hoe is the wrong location . ....

Black students trust college leadership less than white peers

Students of color have “substantially less trust” in their colleges compared to their white peers, according to a new report by the Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research.
Kevin Fosnacht, associate research scientist at the center and co-author of the report, said the college trust gap between Black and white students, at 0.47 standard deviations, was particularly large. The disparity in perspectives was described in the report as being “of sizes rarely seen in education research.” There was an even larger gap (0.58 standard deviations) between Black and white students’ “out-group trust,” which in this case refers to their trust in individuals who are of different races than themselves, the report said. ....

Truro Pydar Street regeneration plans rejected


The future of a £170 million regeneration scheme for a key site in Truro city centre is up in the air after councillors refused to grant planning permission.
An outline planning application for the Pydar Street regeneration scheme went before the council’s strategic planning committee.
But despite being recommended for approval by planning officers the committee decided to refuse permission over concerns that the development was too large and overbearing and concerns about a loss of parking spaces.
The scheme is being led by Cornwall Council itself through its development company Treveth and has been hailed as one of the biggest and most ambitious schemes the council has ever been involved with. ....
