As the market for export and domestic coal declines, parties need to distinguish between support for a coal industry and support for the communities currently relying on it – and back the latter. A transition plan would be an honest recognition that coal pollution, with its impacts on the local environment, health and climate, means the industry is not fit for the future. Who will stand up for what the region can build on for the next decade? ....
