Results from the first round of ranked choice voting has given Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams a razor-thin lead over Kathryn Garcia.
Garcia’s team put out a huge position paper the day after Election Day saying she still had a path to victory, and the preliminary round of ranked choice voting results shows they may have been right, CBS2’s Marcia Kramer reported Tuesday.
She has jumped into second place, but with 130,000 absentee ballots still out there we’re still waiting for final results, and anything can happen. ....

Italian-American activists held a rally Wednesday in Columbus Circle urging Mayor Bill de Blasio to restore Columbus Day to the school calendar.

Bi-Partisan Criticism After NYC's DOE & Mayor Change The Columbus Day Holiday To Indigenous Peoples Day


 New York, NY (77WABC)-New York City’s Department of Education has announced that students will undergo all remote learning on bad weather days, virtually eliminating snow days from the NYC Public School Calendar.
Additional changes, to the public school calendar, are being blasted by public officials including City Council Members Joe Borelli (R), Steve Matteo (R), and Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11). The DOE has announced that the Columbus Day Holiday is changed to Indigenous People’s Day.
NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio responded to criticism about the change during his morning briefing. He said he has spoken with NYC Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter saying the process in making the change “was not handled right.” ....

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Columbus Day should not have been arbitrarily changed to Indigenous People s Day on the Department of Education calendar.
He said the change announced for the 2021-2022 academic year was made without Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter s or his own input.
Look, I think this process wasn t handled right, he said. I certainly didn t hear about the change, nor did the chancellor.
Initially, Columbus Day was removed from the calendar entirely and replaced with Indigenous People s Day, but after a discussion with Ross Porter, they agreed that October 11 will honor both Italian Heritage and Indigenous People. ....
