Fort Worth will have a new mayor for the first time in a decade as voters Saturday were choosing a successor to Betsy Price, the only Republican mayor of Texas’ big cities.
The winner is set to take over a rapidly changing Fort Worth. The city has grown to nearly 1 million residents, and Democrats have made fast inroads in surrounding Tarrant County, one of the GOP’s biggest strongholds in Texas.
Although the race is officially nonpartisan, the crowded field includes Tarrant County Democratic Party Chairwoman Deborah Peoples, who lost to Price in 2019. If elected, she would become Fort Worth’s first Black mayor. ....

Stephanie and I have raised our kids here, and we built our businesses here. We just love the spirit of our city and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience as a councilmember. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

Apr. 22 Fort Worth area pastors are tiptoeing around explicit endorsements while making it clear to congregants which candidates running for local office are fellow church members.
Multiple Tarrant County pastors on Sunday rallied worshipers to vote while listing candidates in the May 1 election. Making an endorsement would jeopardize a church s nonprofit status under a section of the federal tax code that restricts tax exempt entities from engaging in political action.
