Howard Viken, whose deep voice and warm, casual wit were familiar to generations of Minnesotans who grew up listening to WCCO AM Radio, died early Saturday at the age of 97, the station reported. He was very intelligent, but never condescending, said longtime WCCO personality Denny Long. He was just a gem.
Viken worked at WCCO Radio from 1950 to 1989, during its heyday as a powerhouse statewide station. Especially during wild winter weather, he was a must-listen for many Minnesota households.

After limiting capacity for the first several games of the 2021 season, Atlanta United’s parent company says it will return to 100% capacity beginning with the club’s May 15 match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Atlanta Braves, meanwhile, say they’ll return to full capacity a week before, on May 7.
“Given the increased opportunity for Georgians to be vaccinated, the abundant health protocols we have in place at the stadium and the interest from our season ticket members, we felt that now is the right time to reopen the stadium in full capacity,” said Steve Cannon, AMB Sports and Entertainment’s chief executive.

After more than a year of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercedes-Benz Stadium will reopen to full capacity on May 15.
In a press release, managing company AMB Sports and Entertainment said the move comes due to increased access to vaccine distribution, and health and safety protocols in place.
The stadium became a focal point of Atlanta during the COVID-19 pandemic when it opened its doors to vaccine distribution. It also served as an early voting location during last year s tumultuous presidential election.

The Braves and Atlanta United will return their seating capacities to pre-pandemic levels next month, the MLB and MLS teams announced Wednesday.
Both teams were previously allowing 50% capacity. But the Braves’ Truist Park will return to its roughly 41,000 capacity, starting May 7 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta United will open Mercedes-Benz Stadium to its usual soccer configuration, which allows fans in the lower two levels of the stadium about 42,500 seats starting May 15 against Montreal.
