Sentence of Dalton death crash driver David Logan criticised


A COUNCILLOR has criticised the sentence handed down to a man who killed a father, two children and the family dog through dangerous driving.
David Christopher Logan was jailed for ten years and ten months at Preston Crown Court after he admitted three counts of dangerous driving, drink driving and criminal damage.
The former soldier killed pedestrians Joshua James Flynn, Skylar Flynn, Coby-Jay Flynn and their pet dog Troy while the family members were out on a Father’s Day walk on Abbey Road near Dalton in June last year.
Logan, 48, was also banned from getting behind the wheel for 16 years and five months. ....

A drink-driving ex-soldier who ploughed into a dad and his two children on a Father s Day walk and killed them instantly has been jailed for more than 10 years  
David Logan, 48, was nearly twice the legal drink-drive limit when he crashed into pedestrians Joshua Flynn, 37, his son Coby-Jay, 15, and daughter Skylar, 12.
Preston Crown Court heard how the family, with their beloved Yorkshire Terrier Troy, died after being struck by Logan s Peugeot 206 in Dalton, Cumbria, on June 21 last year. 
The silver car mounted the kerb and hit the family before smashing into a tree at around 2.30pm.  ....

Tributes pour in after woman found dead in Barrow


TRIBUTES have poured in from councillors and readers following the shock announcement that a woman was found dead in Barrow.
The body of a 34-year-old woman was reported deceased in the Abbot s Wood area over the weekend.
Derek Gawne, who represents Roosecote at Barrow Borough Council, was devastated by the news and is feeling for the family involved.
He said:“It is absolutely shocking news.
“Obviously, all the circumstances will come out in the inquest, but it is just terrible what has happened.
“It will be awful for the family at the moment and they are the people I feel for. ....

Government accused of 'forcing' council tax rise on vulnerable people in Furness


LABOUR last night called on the Government to rethink allowing local authorities to raise council tax.
Councils are due to be given the power to raise council tax by as much as five per cent this year.
Local party figures accused the Government of forcing the rise on vulnerable people in the area.
Labour MPs voted for a motion calling for the Government to drop the rise.
Citing estimated council tax rises per region, Labour warned families living in Band D will face an average rise of £93 next year , adding it would hit hardest in areas like Barrow.
Steve Nott, a Labour councillor for Dalton South, said: Well this government said they’d look after councils and ensure money was available for them to support their residents and local businesses throughout this pandemic. ....
