The great yellow is one of the UK s rarest bumblebees and only survives in a handful of places in Scotland. Katy Malone is among those protecting the last populations of the bee.
Over the next few weeks great yellow queens will begin emerging from their months-long hibernation.
Looking out for them will be the Bumblebee Conservation Trust s Katy.
She has worked for different conservation organisations for almost 20 years, but says helping to save the great yellow is the best job she has ever had .
We expect to see the great yellow emerging from hibernation by about mid-May, says the Highlands-based conservation officer of the charismatic furry yellow and black bee. ....

Nick Ray has lived with severe depression for about 20 years, but finds relief exploring Scotland s coast in his sea kayak.
The 57-year-old is open about his struggles with mental health.
On Twitter he describes himself as a depression sufferer and survivor, and suicide prevention advocate.
His own experience of depression has seen him end up in hospital on several occasions, including last year, and make an attempt to take his own life.

At 27, I learnt that my father was not my father. Instead, I am donor-conceived. My world was blown apart. But that seismic discovery would pale in comparison to what happened next. I went on a 10-year journey to discover the truth of my own existence, and what I found out about the fertility industry was truly shocking.
I discovered that the fertility clinic of the public Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) in Sydney, which made me, deliberately destroyed donor conception codes: the vital information about which children, and how many, had been made from whom. This included my own donor code. RNSHâs fertility clinic later became part of the huge, private IVF Australia. In 2014, I blew the whistle on this in ....
