What's happening with COS's theatre project?

As of last September, the college was to receive $27 million from the state, an amount expected to cover 100% of the project cost based on what was known then. The award would fund replacement of the COS fine arts building and renovation of the old theater. The resulting two structure, new and old, would be coupled into a new Center for Performing and Creative Arts.
At the Tuesday meeting, trustees learned that the paper evaluations will be completed in early June Then ,on-site inspections by third-party engineers begin that will peel back layers of the building for inspection of actual structural elements, as necessary. ....

Dr. Char Perlas aims for transparency as she takes reins at College of the Siskiyous

“Communication is really the backbone of leadership,” Perlas said. I want to have transparency and to make positive progress here.”
While COS classes are mainly online due to the pandemic, Perlas hopes to have more classes in person in the fall semester.
Perlas said she loves living with her husband, Matt, and two dogs in Siskiyou County. She also loves all the outdoor opportunities. Perlas can be found many weekends hitting the slopes at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.
I love the adrenaline rush, and it s a fun way to unwind, Perlas said. She began the sport in earnest when she went for her undergrad at Fresno State and had a ski resort fairly nearby. ....

Renovation of the theatre at College of the Siskiyous and the rebuilding of the school’s fine arts classrooms and studios have been paused at the request of construction managers. The project is in early design stages.
The 53-year-old theatre structure’s outside stucco and inside plaster is being evaluated since building materials used in 1968 are considered hazardous now. In addition, some of the building’s features are below today’s fire safety standards, among other criteria.
The step-back reassessment will help determine the full scope of the theatre renovation and additional cost, according to Sean Blaylock, managing owner of Alma Strategies. Alma and Trover Construction Project Management were hired by the college as construction managers in November 2020. ....
