Worshippers attacked with eggs at east London mosque

The Met said that so far there have been no arrests.
The Muslim community is observing the holy month of Ramadan, which ends next week.
Ahmed Nahwaz, director and secretary of the centre, said the incident was “a shame” but the community remained strong.
“I was caught by surprise because leading up to this we had a very quiet and peaceful 20-odd nights, and then this happened,” he told the PA news agency.
“We weren’t expecting it this kind of time in the period of reflection for everyone, having gone through Covid.”
“It’s a shame (but) we’re used to it,” said Mr Nawaz. ....

Eggs and objects thrown at worshippers at mosque

Eggs and objects were thrown at members of a mosque at what was believed to be a racially aggravated attack.
The Ilford Islamic Centre in Albert Road became a target last night (May 4) at around 11pm, when worshippers were egged and had other items thrown at them.
It is believed that five people were hit by the items thrown.
Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they received reports of an alleged racially aggravated attack.
A spokesperson has said there have been no arrests.
The alleged main attacker is described by a witness as a white man in his 20s with a shaven head, while it is thought there were three other passengers in the vehicle. ....

On April 16, a London man who attacked police officers with a sword in November 2020 was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison for causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist or prevent arrest, according to a department press release. In the attack, one officer was severely injured.

At 7:54 p.m. on November 30, officers responding to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the town of Dagenham and encountered 63-year-old Anthony Browne, who suddenly reached behind his back, whipped out a four-foot-long sword, and began slashing wildly, according to bodycam footage that was shared by Twitter user @davenewworld 2. Tributes to Pc Phillip Walters on 26th anniversary of death

The East Area s top police officer paid tribute to Pc Phillip Walters on the 26th anniversary of his death.
Pc Walters was shot and killed while on duty in Ilford on April 18 1995.
Last year Scotland Yard was planning on having a large memorial ceremony for the slain police officer, who died aged 28, but it had to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions.
The plaque at Valentines Park for Pc Walters which was funded by Ilford Recorder readers.

He was jailed for seven years and four months after admitting to GBH at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 16 April.
The officer was taken to an east London hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening but required surgery and ongoing treatment.
Detective Chief Superintendent Stephen Clayman said: Anyone watching the body-worn video footage will agree that it is completely unacceptable that officers are met with extreme violence like this.
