The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners, by a vote of seven to zero at the January 4
th 2021 meeting, set up a study committee of three commissioners to evaluate changing the enforcing of criminal laws from the sheriff to a county wide police force. Municipal police departments would not be affected. The three commissioners are: Stan Deatherage, Randy Walker and Hood Richardson.
This article is written with the goal of sticking to the facts. We have plenty of opinions about the “politics of law enforcement” in Beaufort County. We will bring them out later in opinion articles as the Beaufort County Police Committee completes its work and the full Board of Commissioners begins to consider the Committee’s final report. ....

With no legislated Mask Mandate in North Carolina, and with vaccinations becoming ever more prevalent: What is your personal Mask Mandate?

I will wear a mask, once fully vaccinated, as a courtesy to those present, or when required by proprietors.

I will not wear a mask because it does not comport with my better health requirements, and, or my ideals.

I am pretty much a shut-in here, but, I will wear the mask if you think it best.

WASHINGTON A North Carolina county manager has received the go-ahead to develop a plan which would allow workers to carry guns inside county buildings.
The Beaufort County Commissioners voted 4-2 on Monday to approve a motion directing county manager Brian Alligood to come up with the plan, WITN reported. Alligood is to look at surrounding counties with similar policies and return with a plan and rules for the commissioners to vote on.
Commissioner Stan Deatherage said the move is for the protection and safety of county employees. Deatherage said many county buildings have signs that say gun-free zone, which he says could entice someone to enter the building and take advantage of the situation. ....
