Mare Island preserve’s 13th birthday bash on calendar as site opens to public
MARE ISLAND The public is invited to celebrate the 13th birthday of the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday with a “Birthday Party for the Teenage Preserve” event.
Guided birdwatching and preserve exploration hikes are scheduled at noon and 2 p.m. with a history presentation given at 3:45 p.m. Meet guides for the free tours and presentation at the visitor center parking lot.
The “Birthday Party for the Teenage Preserve” continues outside the preserve gate with a barbecue and bring-your-own-dinner gathering (socially distanced in your car or outside 6 feet) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., continuing with music and a lighted display of Astrobotanicals (astrobotanicals.com) by art creator Stan Clark from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
