What is it with Republicans not wanting people to vote or participate in government? Dumb question, obvious answer.
The latest battleground is the City of Staunton, which for the next four years is under the thumb of a 4-3 Republican City Council majority, an odd happenstance from last May’s COVID-19 elections.
Odd, because Staunton, in November, gave Joe Biden a 10-point win over Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election – even gave Nicholas Betts, a Democrat who barely registered a ripple in his challenge to incumbent Republican Sixth District Congressman Ben Cline, a two-point win. ....

Staunton City Council will issue a proclamation this week declaring April 30 as Arbor Day. Council will also celebrate Staunton again being honored as a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation, the fulfillment of two grant awards, and the launching of a new interactive tree tour.
The Tree City USA program recognizes municipalities that have active tree planting, tree care, and tree preservation programs, with this being the 25th year Staunton has been awarded the title. ....

STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - A group in Staunton is protesting City Councilâs recent decision to end virtual meetings. It means everyone has to come to City Hall to participate in meetings, ending the publicâs ability to phone in.
Staunton Council first allowed virtual participation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a 4-3 vote, they ended it at their most recent meeting. ....
