LGBT+ History Month events are happening across the University and Colleges throughout February, to raise awareness and advance education on matters affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
LGBT+ History Month is our opportunity to celebrate and reflect on our ongoing march towards equality and social justice. We highlight trailblazers and role models, and educate others and ourselves about queer history.

'Annoy your librarian': how to study without library access at university

Universities are following the latest government Covid guidance and, as a result, most libraries on campus are operating on an essential access only basis. Some are providing bookable, socially distanced study areas; others are offering click-and-collect services.
With limited access to resources, students say they are struggling. First year psychology student Erin Carr has been unable to get hold of the mandatory reading for her course. “The online books have expiry dates of a few days and have a limited number of times they can be downloaded,” she says. “On top of this, I don’t have the required storage space on my device. It’s really frustrating.” ....

Richard Luckett,who has died aged 75, was for 30 years Samuel Pepys’s Librarian at Magdalene College, Cambridge.
The diarist and eyewitness to the Great Fire of London is famous for chronicling the life of a young man all about town between 1660 and 1669. Less well-known is the Mr Pepys, MP, of later years, who served as Secretary to the Admiralty and President of the Royal Society, and who as a collector assembled 3,000 volumes of printed books and manuscripts, intended as a conspectus of human knowledge. ....
