The Gauteng department of health has traced 34 people who were in contact with pupils from St John’s College in Johannesburg. This comes after five pupils in grades 11 and 12 and another pupil had tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.
Provincial health spokesperson Kwara Kekana said the department commenced with contact tracing immediately after it was made aware of the cluster outbreak.
“The six pupils and two teachers who have tested positive for Covid-19 and 34 potential close contacts are being quarantined and monitored,” Kekana said.

To Whom It May Concern
I am the Head Librarian/Manager of The Brenthurst Library in Johannesburg, a privately-owned research library holding collections of books, pamphlets, manuscripts, artworks and photographic materials.
In 2016 the library collaborated with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam on a project to digitise records relating to Robert Jacob Gordon, the last Dutch military commander at the Cape. The library holds a substantial archive of manuscript material, and artworks and maps were in The Netherlands, so the Rijksmuseum wished to set up a website combining all the material for researchers. The manuscripts held here are fragile and very valuable, so it was important that they would be handled in line with best conservation practices.
The most expensive private day school in South Africa, based on Grade 12 tuition fees alone, and excluding acceptance and application fees costs just under R200,000 for the year.
The honour of the most costly day school in the country resides with Kearsney College in Botha’s Hill, a small town located between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal.
It increased its fees by R8,580, or 4.5%, this year in order to retain the top spot with annual fees of R199,320, reports businesstech.
Tack on the school’s mandatory R780 application fee and the R31,250 acceptance charge, the total price of admission for 2021 is a whopping R230 570.
