The program provides food to kids who may not otherwise have regular meals during summer break in a school district where 74% of children qualify for free or reduced lunch rates, according to the Schenectady City School District website.
Meal pickup times last an hour and a half. Most begin between 11 and 11:45 a.m., and end between noon and 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 
The program is continuing with the “Grab and Go” format from last summer because of current COVID-19 restrictions. All meals are pre-packaged by SiCM volunteers, and can be quickly passed out to children at the distribution sites. ....

A slow but steady stream of people walk or drive into the parking lot to roll up their sleeves, drawn by the sign or, more likely, people telling them there would be a pop-up vaccination clinic that day at the Schenectady Community Ministries food pantry in Hamilton Hill.

Carrying a bag full of groceries in one arm and a package of maxi pads in another, Niskayuna resident Rebecca Lyons stopped and placed the pads in a blue bucket outside the Niskayuna Co-op Friday afternoon. 
She was met with thank yous from several people from Schenectady Community Ministries, who along with the Co-op were explaining to shoppers walking by the mission to get menstrual hygiene products for women. It was an idea thought up by two family members, one who worked with the ministries, the other who worked for the Co-op.  ....

But not all parts of the county are vaccinating at an equal rate.
Nationwide, the generalization has been that rural white Republicans and urban minority communities have been among the slowest to vaccinate, and the same pattern has developed in Schenectady County.
A ZIP code-based database provided by county Public Health Services indicates that only 36% of residents age 15 and older in the Hamilton Hill and Vale neighborhoods have received at least one dose of vaccine, compared with 73% in Niskayuna. ....
