Obituary: Morton Levinson, 89, of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT - (From Shaughnessy Banks Funeral Home) Morton Levinson, 89 of Fairfield, the beloved husband of the late Sally Levinson, died peacefully at home on Monday, May 17, 2021.
He was the only child of Samuel and Ethel (Klein) Levinson, who provided an amazing family life in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport.
Sam & Ethel owned and operated Sam s Place a bar/restaurant where Ethel cooked and Sam ran the thriving bar. Mort spent much of his childhood days playing all kinds of sports with the neighborhood kids.
Mort served proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War, where he ran electronics for the pilots on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge. He tried out and made the Navy s fast pitch softball team and played many competitive games while stationed in the Philippines. ....

Medical marijuana advocates rally for Initiative 65 Mississippi

Mississippi native Jasmine Cochran s heard it all her life: If you don t like it, change it.
So she did what she was told.
Cochran voted for Initiative 65 last fall to amend the constitution and legalize medical marijuana. That s what she wanted for her mother suffering with fibromyalgia a disorder causing widespread bodily pain and her father recently diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer.
She was part of the the overwhelming majority of Mississippi voters who passed the initiative in November.
Tuesday morning, in front of over 200 people gathered near the Mississippi Supreme Court for the We are the 74 rally, Cochran isn t celebrating that win. She s fighting for it. ....

The Duke of Edinburgh taught me compassion. When he died I thought about his wonderful contribution with the Duke of Edinburgh Award. A programme designed to give young people experiences outside the classroom to become committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens of the world.
My community service was teaching Sunday school to under 6 s for a few years. When I reached Gold level and needed to do a week-long tramp I found that in its place I could do a longer stint of community service. I chose the nearby Ravensthorpe psychiatric hospital and I approached the superintendent to help out as a nurse aide. ....
