James IV of Scotland
Send to Google Classroom:
James IV of Scotland ruled as king from 1488 to 1513 CE. He succeeded his father James III of Scotland (r. 1460-1488 CE) and became one of the most popular of the Stuart kings. James sought to apply justice in every corner of his realm, he created Scotland s first navy, and he promoted such innovations as the printing press. The royal houses of England and Scotland were joined in 1503 CE when James married Margaret Tudor, daughter of Henry VII of England (r. 1485-1509 CE). James IV was killed along with the flower of Scotland s nobility when he lost the Battle of Flodden against the English in September 1513 CE. He was succeeded by his son James V of Scotland (r. 1513-1542 CE) and so the royal Stuart line continued. ....

James II of Scotland

James II of Scotland
Send to Google Classroom:
James II of Scotland ruled as king from 1437 to 1460 CE. Succeeding his murdered father James I of Scotland (r. 1406-1437 CE), James inherited the throne as a child. The first part of his reign witnessed intense rivalries between rival barons, which sent Scotland into a civil war. The young king was nicknamed fiery face because of a prominent birthmark on his face. From 1449 CE, James reached maturity and began to take control of his kingdom, and he skilfully fostered allies, reduced the wealth and power of rival families, and championed new military technology. Having eliminated all rivals and made several attacks on northern England, the king died aged just 29 in August 1460 CE when a cannon he was standing next to exploded. He was succeeded by his son James III of Scotland (r. 1460-1488 CE).  ....

Robert II of Scotland

Robert II of Scotland
Send to Google Classroom:
Robert II of Scotland ruled as king from 1371 to 1390 CE. Born Robert Stewart, he succeeded the heirless David II of Scotland (r. 1329-1371 CE) and so founded the royal house of Stewart. Dividing Scottish estates between his many offspring, Robert redrew the political map of his kingdom and effectively replaced half of the nobility with his family and allies, a process often called the Stewartisation of Scotland. Although a more capable leader in his youth than medieval historians liked to portray him, Robert s reign did witness a decline in the wealth of the Crown and the creation of bitter rivalries amongst the great baronial families which would cause no end of problems for his successor, his son Robert III of Scotland (r. 1390-1406 CE).  ....
