(WALB) - Valdosta Police Department (VPD) is seeking/hiring qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. The department is holding an open testing hiring event on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 6pm. Once an applicant has successfully completed the process, they go to the academy to become a State Certified Peace Officer. They ask everyone that attends to wear a protective face covering and if you are not feeling well, please plan on attending a later testing date. The testing will be at Valdosta City Hall Annex, 300 North Lee Street. ....

(WALB) - A Nashville man was taken into custody after police found narcotics on him, according to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD). VPD said officers responded to the 600 block of Azalea Drive around 12:15 a.m. Friday after receiving a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in the roadway. When officers arrived, they found Tanner Strickland, 31, of Nashville, asleep in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Officers said while attempting to wake Strickland up, an officer noticed a small clear plastic bag that contained a white powder sitting in plain view. ....

(WALB) - Just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, a motorcycle rider wrecked his vehicle in Valdosta, according to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD). Officers responded to the intersection of Orr Road and Staten Road after a 911 call about an accident. Upon arrival, officers found Alexander Kraemer, 25, with visible injuries and unresponsive. Kraemer was pronounced dead on the scene. There were no other vehicles or people involved in the accident and VPD said the investigation is ongoing, so no further information is being released at this time. ....

(WALB) - On Monday, around 10:30 a.m., the Valdosta Police Department (VPD) responded to the 1700 block Old Clyatteville Road, after a 911 call about a two-vehicle collision. Officers gave aid to those injured until they were taken to the hospital by EMS. William Marcus Bonner, 41, of Valdosta, who was the driver of one of the vehicles, died in the accident, according to VPD. VPD said the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time. ....
and last updated 2021-05-03 13:59:17-04 VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) â Valdosta police are investigating after a 14-year-old was shot on Saturday. According to VPD, the shooting happened at a residence in the 2100 block of Melrose Drive around 4:15 p.m. VPD said they received a 911 call and reporting someone had been shot. When they arrived on the scene, officers said they found a 14-year-old victim with a gunshot wound. EMS arrived and took the victim to the hospital. Further investigation led detectives to take a 16-year-old family member in custody, VPD said. âOur thoughts and prayers go out to the families that are involved in this tragic incident,â said Chief Leslie Manahan. ....
