The Best Fleeces for Women

I like being warm when it’s cold outside you probably do too and nothing kills a fun day faster than shivering. Which is why we have fleece: Technical fleeces wick away moisture so you don’t get chilled when you sweat, and nontechnical fleeces are soft and toasty. A great fleece will keep you comfortable during a range of situations in cool and cold temps, from slow ski lifts to multi-pitch sport climbs. For this article, I spent two months researching and testing fleeces, taking them climbing, ski touring, running, and walking around town. My favorite was Patagonia’s R1 hoodie. It’s a technical layer more on the differences between technical and casual fleeces below that worked well in every activity I used it for. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, it might be worth adding an R1 to your layering system.

Sandia coaster getting bumpy reception

The Wiegand Alpine Coaster. (Courtesy Wiegand Sports) Hundreds of New Mexicans have chimed in during a public comment period the Cibola National Forest held as part of the approval process for a mountain coaster at the Sandia Peak Ski Area. More than 1,700 people and counting have written comments about the proposal, and the vast majority of them are critical of the coaster, according to a Journal review. “If we built a mechanical bull ride at the top of the Sandias, yes, more people may go up there, but at what cost to the land/view?” Jonathan Yales asked. ...................... “I oppose building a roller coaster on sacred lands, you wouldn’t think to stick a roller coaster in Vatican city, it would be abhorrent,” Colette Scaff wrote. “This is equally so.”

SFNF Española District Postpones Pacheco Canyon Burn Today

SFNF Española District Postpones Pacheco Canyon Burn SFNF News: SANTA FE – After assessing conditions today, fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) decided to postpone the previously announced Pacheco Canyon prescribed burn on the Española Ranger District for at least a day. Ignitions, which are expected to take one day, could begin as early as tomorrow. Fire managers will look at several factors, including snowpack on the north-facing slopes, fuel moisture levels, air quality, ventilation, wind direction and weather forecasts, before making the decision to proceed with the burn.  The Pacheco Canyon prescribed burn unit is approximately 6 miles east of Tesuque Pueblo and 3 miles west of Ski Santa Fe.

Snow Trax 15 | The Art & Science of Snowmaking | Current Ski Conditions

03/04/2021 | By Snowsports Journalist Daniel Gibson | See current ski conditions after this story | This week we take a brief look at another key function of ski areas that largely goes unnoticed by skiers, but plays a huge role in how good or bad the experience on the slopes is. As with snow grooming, making manmade snow is an activity carried on largely at night and thus out of sight. None in New Mexico do it more, and better, than the crew at Taos Ski Valley, led by Tommy Murray, snow surfaces manager. Here’s a brief look at the process, plus details on current conditions.
