Former Vandergrift lawyer hiking Appalachian Trail for charity, in memory of his wife

Aspinwall resident Tim Geary is on one heck of a trek for charity.
Geary, formerly of Vandergrift, began a solo hike March 17 on the Appalachian Trail.
He’s hoping to raise more than $5,000 for research of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer, in honor of his late wife, Gillen, who died in April 2020.
“I promised my wife I would dedicate this hike to her,” said Geary, 77, during a phone interview Monday from the trail in North Carolina. “We talked about this before she died. She wanted me to have a plan.”
The couple shared 53 years of marriage, and Geary served as caregiver during her seven-year battle with melanoma. ....

Like other religious congregations, the Mount St. Scholastica Monastery in Atchison, Kansas, has had to strictly limit visitors since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. Barry Fitzgerald named Knight of the Month

Barry Fitzgerald was named Knight of the Month for November by the St. Scholastica Knights of Columbus Council 14485 in Lecanto.Â
Fitzgerald moved to Citrus County from Scranton, Pennsylvania in 2017 and retired from United Parcel Service as a driver after 41 years of service.Â
FitzgeraldÂ has two children, Colleen and Brian and two grandchildren who live in Wayne County in Pennsylvania.Â

Soon after arriving in Citrus County, FitzgeraldÂ joined St. Scholastica Knights Council and has been very active. Having a passion for masonry work, he enjoys working with decorative concrete and brick. Not in a metaphorical or allegorical sense. Their church had been taken over by a new diocese and they didn’t approve. So they picked it up and spirited it back into the jurisdiction of their old abbacy.
