Gothenburg named the best logistics location in Sweden
For the 20th year in succession, the Gothenburg Region has been ranked the best logistics location in Sweden by the Swedish trade journal Intelligent Logistik. The Port of Gothenburg is described as being crucial to this ranking, due in part to its ongoing investment programme, its global service network, and its handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Still, the port has challenges going forward.
“We are extremely pleased to receive this award. The fact that it is the 20th year in succession is recognition of the continuity of the work we are doing and what we have achieved along the way. But we intend to be even better,” said Elvir Dzanic, Gothenburg Port Authority chief executive. ....

Global logistics in 2020 was marked indelibly by the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in considerable fluctuations in demand for industrial products and transport. At the Port of Gothenburg, container volumes for the year showed no sign of being affected by Covid-19. On the contrary, volumes have increased.
“2020 posed major challenges for everyone in and around the Port of Gothenburg and our flexibility and capacity to adapt have been put to the test. In the light of the prevailing conditions and in hindsight we did almost everything right. Each and every one of the terminal operators at the port should be congratulated,” said Elvir Dzanic, Gothenburg Port Authority chief executive. ....

At the Port of Gothenburg, container volumes in 2020 showed no sign of being affected by Covid-19. On the contrary, volumes have increased.

As far back as 1 February measures were taken to keep the port open and free from disruption in these unprecedented times. The focus was on meeting the new conditions generated by the pandemic and to do so rapidly and effectively. ....

The Skandia Gateway project in Gothenburg has reached a crucial milestone – the environmental impact assessment has been completed, and documents have been submitted for examination by the Land and Environment Court.
Initial studies were conducted in 2014-2017 to address the need for more extensive dredging of the fairways and the inner port area.
The studies were part of a provisional plan to increase capacity at the Skandia Terminal and enhance the competitiveness of the only port in Sweden with direct services to the Far East.
The lead time for an infrastructure project of this nature and magnitude is 8-10 years. ....
