A man has been fined almost $10 million by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for making thousands of racist and threatening robocalls.
Scott Rhodes, a 51-year-old Idaho native living in Montana, placed calls to phones in at least eight states after pre-recording vitriolic messages.
The alleged Nazi sympathizer and white supremacist targeted Black and Jewish politicians, a journalist and members of an Iowa community grieving a murder.
He also attempted to influence the jury in a murder case against a white supremacist in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Rhodes made 4,959 unlawful spoofed robocalls between May and December 2018, the FCC determined in a finding issued on January 14 and seen by ....

SANDPOINT, Idaho The Federal Communications Commission is again fining a former Sandpoint resident accused of making malicious robo-calls in Idaho and five other states, as reported by KREM 2 s news partner the Bonner County Daily Bee.

Ending 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC” or “Commission”) raced to implement several of the Congressionally imposed TRACED Act (“Act”) deadlines to combat illegal robocalls.
First, on December 29, the FCC adopted a Report and Order implementing Section 8 of the Act, which directs the Commission to ensure that any statutorily permitted exemption of calls from the prior express consent requirement of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”) meets certain criteria and codifies certain other exemptions that comply with Section 8. Notably, the FCC chose not to alter the exemption that permitted wireless companies to text their own subscribers without prior express consent.
