An emergency room doctor is recalling the moments he helped save a 5-year-old girl after a car crash in a Salem neighborhood. Dr. Tim Chu ran to help Giuliana Tutrone after a crash sent debris into her home and a granite post hit the 5-year-old in her home, breaking her jaw and severing a vein in her neck. I saw Giuliana, she was on the ground and there was a man holding a towel to her neck and obviously it was pretty bad, the towel was pretty much soaked in blood, Chu said.Chu said he applied pressure to the neck wound and helped paramedics apply a pressure bandage. He immediately told them to call for a helicopter to take Giuliana to Boston, getting her the exact help she needed and saving precious time. The first hour of trauma s always the most critical, so anything you can do to speed it up is always the best, Chu said.Court documents said the driver in the crash, Scott Dowd, admitted to having several drinks before he got behind the wheel. As for Giuliana, her family tell

SALEM, NH (WHDH/CNN) - Shocking home surveillance video shows the moments a little girl narrowly escaped death when a car crashed into a home in New Hampshire.
The 5-year-old survived the crash but suffered injuries and had to have emergency surgery.
Chilling home video shows a carefree Julianna Tutrone walking through her house moments before a car crashes into the home showering the 5-year-old with debris a moment frozen in time when the power was knocked out. All the sudden, I heard a loud smash Joe Tutrone, Julianna s father said. And I got up and right as I got up and looked around the corner I saw glass shoot across our foyer.”
Civic Service Report 8:31 pm
Starting things off in this week’s Civic Service Report we start off with an update to a couple events we covered last month.
At the end of May the Ronald McDonald House charities of Mid Pennsylvania held its Bacon and Bourbon Fest.
The money raised at the event goes toward Rooms For Ronald that was started in Altoona and in Johnstown. It’s the localized mission of the Ronald McDonald Houses to give families a place to stay while their kids are being treated at the hospital so their focus can be on the health of their kids not travel.
Thirty-seven-year-old Scott Dowd of Salem was arrested Tuesday, police said. Charges against him include driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, first-degree assault on a victim under 13 causing serious bodily injury and three counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon.
The father of the 5-year-old girl who was injured recalled the terrifying moments when he thought the child had died. I saw the glass door just shoot across the room, said Joe Tutrone, who was in the home with his young children when he heard the impact and ran to his son and daughter playing in a front room.
