Honors Program scholarship initiative hits $1M mark


The three-year fundraising campaign for La Salle’s Honors Program crossed an important threshold.
For T.J. McCarrick, Esq., B.A. ’12, La Salle University changed his life. In particular, the Honors Program helped him sharpen his analytical skills, build his strongest friendships, and embrace lifelong values.
An attorney based in the Washington, D.C. office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, McCarrick believes the Honors Program also prepared him for a rewarding career.
“La Salle and the Honors Program, in particular equipped me with the analytical tools to make sound decisions on behalf of clients, but it also taught the importance of finding people to invest in your future, and of bringing common sense to bear on complex problems,” said McCarrick, a Norristown native who studied political science and history. ....

President-elect Joe Biden nominates La Salle alumnus to head the CIA
William J. Burns, ’78, a career diplomat, retired from the U.S. Department of State in 2014.
William J. Burns, ’78, a career ambassador and retired foreign service officer, has been nominated by President-elect Joe Biden to serve as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Burns, a native of the Philadelphia area, was a student in La Salle’s Honors Program who graduated in 1978 with an undergraduate degree in history. As Biden’s nominee to lead the CIA, Burns must pass through a U.S. Senate confirmation process before he can begin serving in this role.  Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States in a Jan. 20 inauguration. ....
