Gov. Mike DeWine lifted the COVID-1 curfew, but it may be safer to just stay home. Especially in Stark County where fatal crashes involving impaired drivers jumped last year and the increase was more than four times higher than the rest of the state despite fewer drivers on the road. Statewide, there were 1,152 fatal crashes last year, up 10.6% from the previous year, according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety s Ohio Traffic Safety Office. Of those accidents, 582 involved impaired drivers, also a 10% increase, and they resulted in 623 deaths, a 4.3% increase. Stark County Safe Communities Coalition coordinator Suzanne Snyder said that 43% of the fatal crashes in Stark County in 2019 involved drugs and/or alcohol. Last year, that number climbed to 56%, with 17 of the 30 fatal crashes involving impaired drivers. ....
