And that was well before the recent state law made it OK, the 18-year-old city resident said.
Whitman motioned to a nearby grass field where she and others smoke pot regularly. She said she smokes cannabis there almost daily, adding that it helps with anxiety she experiences while riding the bus.
Whitman said she’s made friends with other smokers there. Occasionally, someone might tell them to stop, but mostly it’s accepted, she said. ....

SCHENECTADY – The lights will soon be on again at Arthur’s Market, which has been the Stockade’s gathering place on and off for decades. 
The historic cafe and market is slated to reopen on March 4, after more than a year of restoration work. 
“It’s such an old building and I knew it was in pretty poor condition but everything did take longer than I had initially estimated,” said owner Haley Whalen. 
She purchased the building at 35 North Ferry Street at the end of 2018 and began restoration work the following year. The building dates back to the late 1700s and according to previous Gazette articles has housed stores in various forms since then. Perhaps the most notable iteration in recent memory began in 1952 by Arthur Polachek, who sold groceries and fostered a sense of community in the neighborhood.  ....

Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority chairman Ray Gillen advocated for a pair of street redirection projects in public hearings during Monday’s virtual City Council meeting.
Gillen spoke on behalf of Metroplex to support a pair of changes to traffic flow one to redirect South Church Street from State Street to Fuller Street from a two-way street into a one-way street while also allowing for westbound left turns from State Street to South Church Street, the other redirecting Barrett and Huron Streets between South Avenue and Park Place from a one-way street to a two-way street. ....
