Numerous events celebrate 100 years of change and progress
In 1965, a total of 114 life-size sculptures were unveiled at the former mansion of a landlord in Dayi county, Sichuan province.

A series of picture books gives children and adults a taste of traditional culture by exploring the history and origin of popular Chinese dishes in a new and contemporary way, Mei Jia reports. 
As Emeril Lagasse, the US celebrity chef, once noted: To really get to know a place and its people, you ve got to eat the food. Food serves as a key to every culture and, in China, glutinous rice paste, moon cake, spring roll, eight-treasured rice congee, Yangzhou-styled fried rice and dried persimmon are delicacies commonly seen on dinner tables across the country. To Sichuan Fine Arts Institute associate professor Mou Aili, they are her inspiration for a series of picture books that she hopes will pass Chinese culture and the wisdom it involves on to future generations . ....

.- On February 20, the Vancouver Art Gallery opens Sun Xun: Mythological Time and Stories that animate us, two dynamic and compelling exhibitions that draw from a diverse range of oral histories, narratives, knowledge systems and cosmologies.
In his first solo exhibition in Canada, Sun Xun employs printmaking and animation to produce ambitious works that contend with notions of time and history, fantasy and reality, and ideology and myth. In his highly imaginative video installation Mythological Time (2016), Sun takes viewers on a journey through his hometown of Fuxin in northern China, a coalmining centre facing the depletion of its economic lifeblood. Xiaolin Sun has had a passion for the fine arts since he was child. In his sophomore year of college, Sun became awe inspired by the ways in which technology had managed to restore and preserve Chinese cultural artifacts, sparking his interest in researching the textiles of East Asia’s ethnic minority groups.
But before he pursued an advanced degree, Sun sought to strengthen his oral and written English and earn competitive TOEFL scores. That led him to Columbia University’s American Language Program; Sun enrolled in the Intensive Academic English Program for three terms and the Advanced Academic Preparation course over a summer.
