Of the 95 counties and county equivalents in Tennessee with current data, Pickett County has had the highest number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 per capita to date. Since the first COVID-19-related death was reported in the United States on Feb. 29, 2020, 24 people have died of the virus in Pickett County or about 472 for every 100,000 people.
For reference, across all of Tennessee, the population-adjusted coronavirus death toll stands at 175 for every 100,000 people.
Just as the population-adjusted death toll in Pickett County exceeds that of the state as a whole, it is also higher than the comparable national figure. To date, 545,022 Americans have died of COVID-19- related causes, equal to about 167 deaths per 100,000 people. ....

The adjoining states of Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia have a connecting bond to a major league baseball pitcher from 1912-1922.
Phil Brooks Douglas was born on July 17, 1890 in Cedartown, Georgia but moved to Cowan, Tennessee in Franklin County where he grew up.  He would also move to Birmingham, Alabama during his life.
At 6’3” and weighing 190 pounds, Phil was a big man for that era and began his professional baseball career in 1910 at the age of 20.
His fastball pitch was impressive enough that he would be favorably compared to future Hall of Famer Walter “Big Train” Johnson, often considered the greatest right-hand pitcher of all time. ....

Weekend Mailbag: Jim Wyatt Answers Questions From Titans Fans

It was a good week in Mobile. Lots of interesting prospects, and lots of gumbo.
Saw Titans General Manager Jon Robinson across the way taking notes, as I was taking a few myself.
His trump mine.
It seems there s a lot to discuss this week in Titans land.
Let s go …
Jordan Newbury from Cushing, Texas
Question: Hello Jim. I don t even know what to say about the promotions of Todd Downing and Shane Bowen. Vrabel and JRob know them and their qualifications much better than us, the fans, but the numbers don t lie, and neither have a great track record at the positions they ve been given. I don t have a question about either coach because I know already what they bring to the table. I only hope they surprise us all. I felt as though the Titans were right on the cusp of greatness, now I worry that with these two uninspiring promotions, square one could be at hand once again. ....
