Youth Day: Monday a public holiday - Zimbabwe Situation

GOVERNMENT has declared tomorrow a public holiday in lieu of today’s National Youth Day that is commemorated to honour the country’s founding leader, the late former president Cde Robert Mugabe.
February 21 was proclaimed a holiday in 2017 in recognition of Cde Mugabe’s works in championing the 21st February Movement that celebrates the contribution of young people to local political and socio-economic development.
The late national hero was born on February 21, 1924.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage advised the public that the holiday will be rolled over to tomorrow.
“In terms of the Extraordinary Government Gazette of 2 October 2020, on the Public Holidays in 2021, Sunday 21st February is the National Youth Day,” read the statement. ....

Youths Urged to Diversify During Covid-19

Youths in the arts sector have been urged to make use of the Covid-19 pandemic to diversify their income-generating projects to survive and remain relevant.
These sentiments were raised by renowned poet Albert Nyathi at the Matabeleland North Youth in Arts Mentorship and Empowerment program hosted by 4-H Zimbabwe and Shangano Arts Trust on Friday.
Artists who graced the virtual programme bemoaned how they are struggling to make ends meet due to the pandemic which has also negatively affected them.
In response, Nyathi alluded to how everyone is suffering and forced to adapt to survive. ....

Byo youths challenged to demand leadership quota

BULAWAYO youths have been urged to demand a quota system in leadership positions so that their voices can be heard when they are advocating for their rights among other issues affecting them.
Ward 22 councillor Rodney Jele made the call during a recent round-table discussion organised by Youth-led Innovative Engagement Leadership and Development held in Bulawayo.
It was held under the theme
COVID-19 and Maladministration.
Jele argued that the youth were doing themselves a disservice by not pushing for leadership positions in various institutions such as political parties.
“Youth must demand a quota system just like women for proper representation. ....
