The UK’s Drug Safety Research Unit (DSRU) has launched a Global Pharmacovigilance Observatory to help the pharma industry understand why international regions reach different decisions on the use of medicines.
The observatory will review and collate pharmacovigilance and drug safety data, analyses, evaluations and decisions made in different countries or regions to help regulators and pharma companies pinpoint differences between regions and become better informed when considering drug safety issues. ....

People under 30 will be offered alternative in the UK after rare side effect is detected
People under the age of 30 in the United Kingdom will be offered an alternative to the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine due to a rare blood clot risk, in what the government s vaccination advisory body describes as a course correction in its clinical advice.
The European Medicines Agency, or EMA, also updated its advice for the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on Wednesday, saying that the clots should be listed as a rare side effect . ....

A decision to offer people under 30 an alternative vaccine to the AstraZeneca jab has prompted concern that some could shun the injection over fears about its safety.
Iain Duncan Smith, the former Conservative leader, warned that the decision by the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to advise an alternative jab for the under-30s could disrupt the UK’s vaccine programme and play into the hands of anti-vaccination campaigners.
“It will, I’m afraid, make it more difficult to persuade people to take it, even people who are above 30. Anything like this relies on confidence. I don’t understand what they thought they were doing,” he said. ....
