Car sales jump by 20pc in 8MFY21 - Newspaper

KARACHI: Overall auto sales, barring heavy vehicles segment, showed robust performance in the first eight months (July-February) of FY21 as car sales grew by 19.6 per cent, jeeps by 143pc, pick-ups by 32pc, tractors by over 50pc and two- and three-wheelers by 17pc.
Despite frequent price hikes, low interest rates appear to have played a major role in luring new car buyers. Total car sales rose to 95,139 units in 8MFY21 from 79,534 units in the corresponding period last year. The highest increase of 52pc was recorded in Honda Civic/City sales to 16,213 units as compared to 10,662 units. ....

KARACHI: The auto sector in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (7MFY21) registered brisk growth, posting an increase of 18 per cent in car sales, 137pc in jeeps, 32pc in pickups, 12pc in Fiat and 84pc in Massey Ferguson tractors and 18pc in two- or three-wheelers. The only exception were heavy vehicles which posted negative sales.
According to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), total car sales stood at 81,569 units in 7MFY21 versus 69,189 units in the same period last fiscal. Car sales in Jan 2021 sales increased to 14,543 units as compared to 10,095 units in Jan 2020. ....

Car prices soar amid rising auto-part imports - Newspaper

While already struggling to rein in the prices of sugar, wheat flour, ghee/cooking oil, steel bars and cement, Prime Minister Imran Khan has now vowed to tackle the issue of high car prices and low auto-part localisation.
In the last week of 2020, the federal cabinet directed the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) to look into the production capacity of existing carmakers that have failed to increase their output in line with market demand.
