BUTTERWORTH, Feb 11 The Penang chapter of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized RM4.28 worth of frozen buffalo meat bearing unrecognised halal logo during inspections at the North Butterworth Container Terminal here last Monday and Tuesday. Its director, Zarina Ramli, in a statement, said that 17,370 boxes of the frozen buffalo meat, weighing a total of 335, 914kg, were found in 12 containers from India. “We found that all the boxes are using a halal logo unrecognised by the Malaysian authorities and we have seized it for further investigations under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011,” she said. ....
BUTTERWORTH: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) has seized three containers of millets worth around RM390,881.09 from Ukraine at North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT), says Penang Maqis director Zarina Ramli. She said the department found three containers containing 3,120 sacks of millet weighing 67 tonnes during their routine inspection at NBCT on Jan 24 and Jan 26 respectively. “The containers did not comply with the conditions as stated on the valid Maqis import permit. “The items were seized for further action. “Failure to comply with the conditions of a valid Maqis import permit is an offense under Section 15 (1) of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728), which if convicted can result in a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six years, or both, under Section 15 (2) of the same Act, ” she said. ....

Penang Maqis director Zarina Ramli said that the herbs are estimated to be worth RM61,241.25 and have been seized for further action. “The failure to comply with the standards set in the conditions of a valid import permit is an offence under Section 15 (1), Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011. If convicted, it can result in a fine not exceeding RM100,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six years or both once under Section 15 (2) of the same Act, ” said Zarina. ....
