Letter to the Editor: Reelect Dretler for Select Board Laurie Eliason I am writing to endorse Janie Dretler for the Sudbury Select Board. Janie encompasses all the qualities I want in the leader of Sudbury: hard-working, research-oriented, measured, collaborative and authentic. During the past three years with Janie on the board there has been tremendous progress on important issues in Sudbury. She paved the way for changing the name from Board of Selectmen to the gender neutral Select Board. She has prioritized policy review, early in her tenure championing for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue Division of Local Services review of our financial policies, which led to a dedicated financial policies subcommittee. She continues to advance other policy updates in her role as chair. She has served on the Town Master Plan Steering Committee, and therefore has a clear understanding of Sudbury’s long-term goals and rationale. Lastly, two critical criteria for me: she ....

Dan Carty I am proud to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Sudbury Select Board. It has been a privilege to serve in this capacity for the last four years. Over 20 years ago, my wife Maura and I chose to raise our family here in Sudbury for its sense of community, open space and strong schools. Our three children attend L-S and Curtis, so we are fully engaged in our schools. Public service is important to me; my proudest moments have been coaching our youth and volunteering for organizations that support our greater community. This past year in particular my work at Quest Diagnostics has strengthened my ability to lead Sudbury. Tasked with helping to operationalize our lab developed molecular COVID-19 test, then putting into practice specimen pooling, my decision-making skills were honed under pressure and deadlines. This experience afforded me many sleepless nights, but also reinforced how vital leadership and collaboration are in times of a bona fide crisis. ....

Public service has always been, and continues to be, a passion of mine. My advocacy work often gives me the opportunity to leverage the skills I acquired through my experience as an attorney. For the last almost six years it has been my honor to serve our community on the Sudbury School Committee. During my tenure on the School Committee, I served as chair for over two years. I acquired significant skills that I believe are transferable to the Select Board. ....
