Things to Do in Fort Collins: Why This Town Is Colorado's Next Big Hit

Nestled into farm and ranch country about an hour’s drive from Denver (not far from the birthplace of Noosa yogurt!), Fort Collins, Colorado, just happens to be one of America’s finest hubs for craft beer, outdoor adventure, festivals, and farm-to-table fare.
Like Denver, Boulder, and the state’s many mountain towns, Fort Collins or FoCO has become an increasingly popular hub for California transplants (like this guy). Its young, friendly vibe permeates every restaurant, shop, and many,
many breweries (there are about 25, so just about one for every 7,000 residents).
If all of that plus excursions like hiking, biking, and kayaking in the state’s notoriously beautiful outdoors sounds like a plan to you, here’s what you’ll want to check out on your next trip to Colorado’s northernmost city. ....

What It’s Like to Climb North America’s Highest Via Ferrata
One writer details her experience on the extreme “iron path,” which opened at Arapahoe Basin on June 25.Shauna Farnell •

I figured a via ferrata at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area would be no walk in the park nothing is at the resort, which is famous for its steep ski runs and extreme winter sports competitions. Still, it turned out that A-Basin’s new climbing experience the highest via ferrata in North America is far more rugged and thrilling than I imagined.
The adventure involves a guided, 800-foot vertical (I mean, truly vertical) climb up the granite cliffs of the Basin’s East Wall. After summiting above 13,000 feet, you get to enjoy a gourmet picnic at the top, before turning around to down climb a similar route to the starting point below. ....

Samantha Soriano Enjoys Riding Her Mountain Bike off Massive Cliffs

A Colorado Mountain Biker is Tackling Some of the World’s Gnarliest Terrain
Fresh off dropping cliffs at the elite Red Bull Formation event, Samantha Soriano is on track to become one of the world’s top freeriders. Shauna Farnell •

Before launching off a giant cliff on her mountain bike, Samantha Soriano has a habit of wringing out her hands. It’s her way of shaking out her fear, which she has named “Tito the Anxiety Mosquito” after a character on the popular animated sitcom,
Big Mouth.
She also has a face and name for her internal motivator: “bangin’.” So, as she’s perched above a ridge, ready to drop, she wrings out Tito, grabs the handlebars, and says to herself, “let’s go bangin’.’” ....

A Summit County Teen Set a North American Women's Uphill Ski Record

How a Summit County Teen Broke a North American Women’s Uphill Ski Record
Grace Staberg climbed more than 56,000 vertical feet during a 24-hour period last week at Copper Mountain.Shauna Farnell •

Grace Staberg spent a good bit of time picturing how her attempt at a world record would go.
The 19-year-old Silverthorne resident, who set a goal of breaking the women’s 24-hour world uphill ski record (57,980 feet, set earlier this winter by Italy’s Martina Valmassoi), planned on consuming 300 calories of real food an hour during the effort, including jelly sandwiches and oatmeal. She envisioned chatting with the friends accompanying her on many 2,630-foot vertical laps that involved skinning up a mountain slope and skiing down. And she certainly thought she’d be able to take a quick pee break. ....
