In the third week of April, Indiaâs raging pandemicâs second wave burst onto our phone screens with aerial images of burning pyres in crematoriums. Not very far away in the upper reaches of Pangi in Himachal, temperatures hit a sudden low due to heavy snowfall. Five migrant workers lay huddled in blankets on the floor of a public toilet of a local bus stand. They were among a group of 20 who had just entered the area to work for a contractor. They were âisolatedâ after they tested positive for COVID-19. ....

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 14 (ANI/ThePRTree): The Lions District 3232 has announced the launch of a portable oxygen machine bank in Ahmedabad city in view of the steady increase in the number of Covid-19 cases. It will provide oxygen machines to critically ill patients at home. The Number of beds in hospitals is declining and the waiting period of 2-3 days has caused anxiety.
In such a situation The Lions District 3232 has come up with a novel project to augment the availability of portable oxygen machines through which portable oxygen machines will be given to critical patients at home. Under this unique initiative, patients will get 5 and 10-litre capacity portable oxygen machines for home treatment. ....

Over the summer of 2020, millions of migrants streamed out of Indian cities in the wake of the ill-planned lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 March 2020. The most conservative estimates suggest 30 million internal migrants in India (Ministry of Finance, Government of India 2018: 267). More realistic estimates peg the numbers at 140 million (Rajan et al 2020). If even half the most conservative figures are trekking back home, we are likely to be witness to the forced migration of at least 15 million people criss-crossing the country to get back to their homes. These numbers most likely dwarf the migrations wrought by the partition, estimated between 10 and 12 million people. At a time, millions have been cut adrift by the Indian state, we need to urgently reflect on what it means to be a citizen. ....
