UFC 262: Oliveira vs. Chandler Preview and Predictions
May 11, 2021
With Khabib Nurmagomedov retiring after defending his title for a third time when he defeated Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, the lightweight belt now sits vacant. This weekend, at UFC 262, that belt will find a new home.
Submission ace Charles Oliveira takes on former Bellator kingpin Michael Chandler in the main event to determine a new champion. Oliveira enters the fight as the UFC’s all-time leader in submission victories with 14, and he is also riding an eight-fight winning streak. Chandler earned this title opportunity with an impressive Octagon debut in which he scored a first-round knockout victory over Dan Hooker.
Shogun Fights 16 Results: Isata Retains; New Champions Crowned
There were already enough activities taking place in Baltimore on Saturday, April 8, between a Baltimore Orioles home game and a tattoo convention, among other events. But Maryland’s own Shogun Fights still managed to draw a raucous and enthusiastic crowd to Royal Farms Arena. Fans witnessed four title fights, three of which resulted in new champions being crowned.
The first title fight at Shogun Fights 16 was a rematch for the featherweight title, between champion Francisco Isata and Binky Jones. Isata first won the belt after defeating Jones at Shogun Fights 13 in 2015 in a hard-fought battle, and the rematch was no different. The first round saw Isata take Jones to the mat and keep him there, controlling Jones from the top position and effectively smothering “Father Time” to begin the bout.
Shogun Fights 14 Results: Delbrugge and Watley Crowned New Champions
A pair of new champions took home titles at Shogun Fights 14 on April 16 in Baltimore, Md. As the promotion continues to grow and inched closer to its 15th card later this year, passionate mixed martial arts fans in the state of Maryland continued flocking to Charm City to see up-and-coming fighters put on exciting performances. Of the 13 fights on the card, only three went to a decision.
WW Title: Micah Terrill vs. Jon Delbrugge
The first of the card’s two title fights saw Shogun Fights welterweight champion Micah Terrill put his belt on the line against Jon Delbrugge. A brief feeling-out process to start resulted in a barrage of strikes by Terrill – which was eerily similar to how he won the welterweight title last year. However, Delbrugge recovered and landed multiple takedowns to Terrill, which led to referee Fernando Yamasaki deducting a point from Terrill for repeated fence grabs.
Maryland’s own Shogun Fights held its 18th event from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore on Saturday, April 14, with a card that featured 10 bouts and three title fights.
In the main event, Tucker Lutz became the undisputed Shogun Fights featherweight champion after defeating Francisco Isata in a bout that featured a little bit of everything – including multiple eyepokes, a groin shot and hard-hitting strikes from both competitors. However, Lutz also mixed in some takedowns with his arsenal to become champion. In the co-main event, flyweight champion Greg Fischer successfully defended his belt against Blaine Shutt by exercising his ground game and locking in a rear-naked choke and putting Shutt to sleep.
